If you would like to add a particular title from the danger zone to your library shelf, you might want to prioritize it now rather than wait to hunt it down on the back market. As for speculators, just because a book goes out of stock at Diamond does not mean it will accrue in value over the book's list price. Finally, DC has given no indication that they intend to bring Archives back to print, at least not in the current trade dress we are accustomed to, and based on recent indicators of their publishing plan, it's my [i]opinion that they probably won't. Posts: 3957 Mar 19 09 5:05 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	From the above list I need Sgt Rock 3 and Elfquest 2. Don't understand how the more recent Sgt Rock 3 sold out quicker than the first 2 unless it had a lower print run. I didn't think Elfquest was that big a seller either.

The early books already sold out and have been reprinted years back. SGT ROCK v1 is in it's 3rd printing, and v2 is in it's 2nd printing. SGT ROCK v2 was out of print for around a year before it went back to press last year, and I recall a similar long OOP period on JLA v1. They may be judged case-by-case based on demand like all other books. None ever slipped OOP long enough to go up in price on the backmarket. This had the unintended effect of leading to some degree of consumer complacency (I know it did with me). I don't think the same complacency exists anymore with active Archives fans. Personally, I am not expecting them to go BTP on these editions. This forum has a website! It may have something to do with the economy but it sure seems like there are tons of archives to be had for cheap on ebay these days.

Yet the books that are OOP are apparently skyrocketing on the backmarket. Elfquest Vol. 2 is insane. I got lucky and scored a copy for cover price last week. (I now have a complete collection.) Glad I bought all the Archives currently OOP when they first came out, but I am still missing about 30 from the library and am now motivated to fill in my collection before those might go OOP. In fact, I've already placed orders for All-Star Archives Vol. 5, 8 and 10 to complete that line. This forum has a website! I thought I found a lot with all 8 books but nope...only 2-8. I'll check some of the shops around where I live and see if any of them have a copy tucked away somewhere.

I found Legion 8 for $40 a few days ago, and just bought Elfquest 2 at cover price. I'd like to get Sgt. Rock 3, but at least it's the last volume so having the first two would probably suffice (not that I have them yet). The others I either have or don't want.

If you're really worried about checking whether he has the book in stock; phone him by the toll free number on his website. I just ordered Sgt Rock Vol 3 as I was missing this book. Posts: 16568 Mar 23 09 11:23 AM Forum Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Looking again at some of the comments, I have to say, I think people who assume these things are 'low sellers' should realize that 'low sellers' also means 'low supply'... which means if you're not picking those up immediately, odds are you'll be stuck without them sooner or later, if you have that complacency that Gormuu was referring to. My guess is if you want to get a good idea what's likely to be OOP, you might wanna go look at what the low sellers are. I'd wager Elfquest 3 and 4 are going to hit that 'OOP, HIGH prices on Ebay' soon too, especially since I don't think Elfquest, unless the Pini's and DC renew their Archives agreement, is coming back to print. -------------- Brother Eye is watching. --------------

SIGH My point being, that Marvel obviously knew that people were still interested in the Masterworks after a few years--and therefore made the decision to try again.

I'm not convinced that they "obviously knew" -- that whole program that brought the books back was part of an enormous co-publishing arrangement with Barnes and Noble in an effort to absorb some of the expenses.
