I'm a big fan of Morrison's in general but after suffering through 4 hardcover collections of his recent stint on Batman, I have to say that he and Bats just don't gel.
His whole series just never seemed to come together. It lack cohesiveness and focus and to be quite frank, often I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on or why I should care.
All the stuff about Damian and Talia and the League of this and that, the Black Glove and Batman in a coma...
Unnecessarily contrived and convuluted.
Even artwork by the likes of Kubert and Williamson III couldn't salvaget he material.
I had already resigned myself to give R.I.P. a try and then make a definite decision to bail out or not.
Well - surprise, surprise - this latest misadventure was the nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned.
In many ways it was the most straight forward Batman story arc by Morrison and even though I found it mildly diverting, I just couldn't summon up any excitement or interest in what was going on.
Add to that Tony Daniel's lacklustre artwork and this one is just another dud in Morrison's chamber of blanks.
I think I have pretty much lost any interest in the Batman character and it will take some pretty heavy duty talent to revive my moribund affection for Wayne and co.
Batman is dead, long may he rest.
The fight for the cowl. Who wins? Who cares?
