Check out what I just bought! I haven't picked it up yet (not 'til next week), but attached are a couple of reference pics for y'all's
information/edification (Mine is jet black, by the way, so a Black Flag sticker, a Hank III sticker, and a God-Biscuit sticker for good measure and it should
be nicely tricked out).
In the fifteen years of our marriage, my wife and I have never been a two-car family; in Montana and Denver she had a car and I rode my bike, then for a decade in NYC neither of us had a car, and now in Savannah she has a car and I usually walk. I've wanted a scooter ever since we got to Savannah, as it's a pretty perfect town for scooters (fairly small, lots of parks and town squares break up the traffic flow so people don't/can't go very fast, great weather all year round, etc.)...
Most Vespas and other scooters I like are pretty small for a guy like me; I've lost 30 pounds since July, but even when I get to my goal weight (what I weighed when we got married, so about 35 pounds to go) I'm not exactly a small guy even when I'm skinny. So look at the Ruckus next to a regular-sized scooter, it's about the perfect size: bigger than other scooters but smaller than a motorcycle, and look at those big juicy tires compared to standard scooter tires. It gets 90 mpg, tops out at 35-40 mph, and is precisely small enough that there's no requirement for a license or insurance in Georgia (though I'll insure it anyway, which runs about $120 a year).
I like how much more hardcore and militant it looks than do regular scooters, which tend to look like they're made for women or for men far daintier than I. Stripped down and barebones, these things remind me of WWII-era Jeeps or something, at least in person. Anyway, I'm pretty psyched so I thought I'd send some images along.
Pics of my specific bike once I actually pick it up. Now I just have to find some sort of Germanic helmet with a big spike sticking out of the top of
it...
