Strange is a magician.

Doesn't that kind of make him sound like the "House of Shadows" stage entertainer that the crowd thought him? I would rather call him a sorceror or a black magic practitioner. Even if a bona fide magician, it just sounds so small potatoes.

Thor seems strangely (heh) indifferent regarding the mysterious thing which was able to grab his hammer. "Well, it disappeared, no point in trying to find out what happened."

Speaking of father-son bonding, surely I'm not the only one who's going into massive withdrawal at the paltry amount of Sons of Storytime reviews these last few months??????? I feel like the football has been pulled away just as I was about to kick it.

I'm not kidding. It's really starting to get to me. Have we already reached the point when both Sons have outgrown comics?? Surely the Younger at least has not reached that point yet. Storytime, are you taking time away from this important literary enterprise in order to engage in some ill-conceived schedule of family outings or something? I don't know what region of the country you inhabit, but hopefully it's too cold there for picnics. But if not, bring the Masterwork along!

Can we at least get Spouse of Storytime to give us a monthly review of Amazing Spider-Man?? Her reviews are usually pretty funny.

I'm calling on Storytime to do this site a favor and at least provide a minimum of two reviews per month, one by Elder and one by Younger. Read them ASM until they're up to speed with the current month (whether that be Dec, Jan, or Feb) and then give us their monthly take on ASM. Add Hulk and/or Thor and/or Iron Man if they're amenable. Actually, screw amenable, you're the king of the castle, sit them down and make them do it. If they're allowed at this tender formative age to let comics fall by the wayside as they chase after questionable pursuits such as socialization and schoolwork, there will come a time down the road, I'm not saying this year or next year but someday, when they'll look back on these Sonsless threads and regret the neglected chance to have captured some priceless snapshots of their youth.

I was only teasing with that last post. To paraphrase a previous Prez, it all comes down to what the meaning of the word "had" is: "had looked" versus "had woman". (I'm sure May hasn't had a woman since her college days.)

Storytime knows I was kidding. But man, gone are the good 'ol days when you could rely on reading two or three monthly transcribed reviews from each Son.

I'll wade through this month's Giant-Man to help get my mind off it.

Funny you should say that. I was thinking about austex this afternoon and hoping he would make a Marathon post.

I made it through another Giant-Man story (always an achievement). I guess I should stop coming down on the GM stories. I find them to be the least engaging of the lot every month, but they're okay in terms of rudimentary pre-modern juvenile comic books. I'll be very happy to see Sub-Mariner replace this feature though. Maybe it's the lack of Marvel drama in GM. The artwork is nothing to look at either.

Some weird stuff this month. Hank no longer needs chemicals to change size, now he just does it...by just doing it. The cybernetic helmet allows him to mentally enact the change without any catalyst. I don't really understand this at all, but I guess in the final analysis it neither requires nor deserves any grand pseudo-scientific explanation from the writer. Whatever. Maybe all those months of having his body (and costume!) change sizes has made it so malleable that it now only needs the mental command. What's even worse is that Hank can also change Jan's body size with his mental commands. Can this power be localized? In other words, what if Hank weren't satisfied with Jan's bust?

On the plus side, we're no longer required to entertain the notion that the chemicals can shrink their entire bodies within less than a second of popping the pill.

In one panel, Ant-Man and the Wasp run straight up the sheer face of a mountain at a 90 degree angle. I guess this is a new Ant-power and Wasp-power being revealed. In fact, Jan says running this way for "hours" will help her "save energy" for flying later on!

The Colossus turns out to be an alien who eventually leaves because he assumes all humans have Hank's powers. Is it FF #2 of which this reminds me?

Another weird moment - during Hank's mountaintop battle with Colossus, the natives communicate the state of affairs to other tribes through drumbeats, and the message has time to reach "all corners" of the dark continent while the battle is still ongoing. We may at least hope that some of those shown running to the scene did not arrive in time to see the end of the battle.

Whereas Hank always retained his full strength when Ant-sized, he's now shown to weaken if he grows too large, and a 12-foot limit is imposed. Maybe this was in response to fan letters asking why he couldn't grow even bigger, or else it's for the sake of adding some kind, any kind, of imposed drama.

Since there is only the second of the two "Starring the Wasp" stories left to me to read, I'll save that as an excuse to make another Marathon post.

I say the Hulk is the real star of TtA 59, which enables me to joyfully declare -
