I was thinking about this the other day while reading some GA Masterworks and it occured to me that while most GA stories can be kept with assumed changes in
minor details and a few look to be impossible, some fit very nicely into continuity.
Case in point - The first story in Sub Mariner 8, winter 1942 (GA Sub Mariner Masterworks 2) begins with Namor arriving back from Europe 'Some fun in Europe, but i'm glad to be back home.' and encountering a Nazi spy called The Knife. Ok, in the Invaders, Subby was stationed in London with the rest of the team but we can assume he frequently took off for a few days at a time and ended up fighting the Axis all around the world ala his GA title.
The Knife escapes but a clue leads Namor to get himself temporarily placed in a Marines unit thats just about to head off to Guadalcanal. Now if we forget about small details like Namor pranking a Corporal and later enlisting that same Corporal's aid in playing a trick on a Sgt (in reality the Knife in disguise) with the Corporal meekly going along instead of bawling him out - then so far the story works. Furthur suspension of disbelief requires us to ignore the unit's rapid transfer from Parris Island to California for training and then straight to action. We can assume that this was a highly trained Marines outfit that was moved immediately after Namor joined them, to California, the staging ground for their transport to the Solomon Islands. Lets assume they stayed there 2 days while waiting for their assigned ship and spent that time in furthur training.
If i recall rightly the Guadalcanal action started around August 1942 so seeing as fresh soldiers were being brought there, lets assume its late in that month and therefore we can date the story. Namor of course unmasks and defeats the spy.
The only ammendum i'd make is a possible assumption - perhaps the Invaders could also appear in this campaign - a story recapping these events could have Namor rendezvouing with the others following the capture of the Knife. However all indicators in stories i've read seem to have Cap and Torch mainly active in the States in GA tales (though i'm sure theres some European theatre Cap tales - can anyone clue me in on Cap and Torch's areas of wartime operation?) while Subby spent a lot of time in the Pacific and Atlantic theatres as well as elsewhere.
In continuity we might assume that Namor world travelled between Invaders missions, using his supersonic jet plane while the others mostly remained in Europe - the US based adventures of Cap et al could be old cases from 1940/41 and adventures taking place during home leave.
What might be more interesting is to see Namor encounter other costumed adventurers in Guadalcanal - The Defender was a Marine so its likely he and Rusty might have been assigned to that theatre of war.
