Can someone remind me the nature of the error in one of these volumes, where the narration caption was wrong or something? And was it corrected in later reprintings? If so, how can I ensure that I get the edition with the proper caption? Thanks for any info. Until I researched this Archives series, I had no idea that the issues in World's Finest Archives V1 predate those in SA Flash V1. I guess it's not technically "Silver Age World's Finest" if the Silver Age didn't actually start until 2 years later with Barry Allen. What "Age" are pre-Flash 1950's DC issues called? Anway, I always loved this mag for the Superman/Batman teamups. Lots of wholesome fun. The difference between the superpowered Clark and the gadget-reliant Bruce was nice. Their friendship and dialogue was fun. The art was really nice a lot of the time. I guess my first exposure was the tales reprinted in Superman: From the 30's to the 70's, and Batman: From the 30's to the 70's. Loved those books. Too bad they were mostly in black and white, but man did I love those books as a kid. I also remember loving the $1.00 run, like the issue called "The Kryptonian Curse" or something like that, where Neal Adams drew a cover with a Man-Bat-ish Batman attacking Superman. I guess it will be a shame that I can't read the backup features as I read the World's Finest Archives V1, but oh well. I also wish there were more than 3 volumes of this Archives series before the program stalled. Thanks for any replies.

This is the first I've heard of it. Until I researched this Archives series, I had no idea that the issues in World's Finest Archives V1 predate those in SA Flash V1. I guess it's not technically "Silver Age World's Finest" if the Silver Age didn't actually start until 2 years later with Barry Allen. What "Age" are pre-Flash 1950's DC issues called? Good Lord! Do you have any idea what a can of worms it is that you just opened? Showcase #4 kicked off the Silver Age, but some material that predates that issue has been included as a part of the SA. Things such as the Superman\Batman\Robin team-ups in World's Finest, The Martian Manhunter strip and Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen. Some people refer to the brief time between the Golden and Silver Ages as the Atomic Age, but I don't. The art was really nice a lot of the time. How could you fail with guys like Curt Swan and Dick Sprang? I guess it will be a shame that I can't read the backup features as I read the World's Finest Archives V1, but oh well. It would have been fun if they included the Aquaman and Green Arrow strips from World's Finest.

We at DC Comics offer our apologies for this error. As I understand it, the Yellow title page blurb from Superman # 76 used was from a reprint from a later issue of World's Finest (Maybe the 80 g giant # 179ish?) My copy says first printing. I started collecting WF after I finshed B&tB from 87 thru 200. Written by Haney, often drawn by Dillon. $1.00 size. 60 cent 100 pagers. The Super-Sons! Some of the stories are not War & Peace, but entertaining and relatively in-expensive for 35 year old comics. I go from 'The End' at #323 to #199 The Race w/o interuption. Forgot all about the 'DC Presents' issues! Then a broken run thru # 127. The WF Archives takes me from 71 thru 116 I think. It is the only SA Archive I collect. As too the new & re-hashed SA date debate, has anyone ever considered the SA started with the page count drop? It is the reason we got Spes & Bats in one story in the first place and would be an interesting point. Did all of DC shink page count at that point? July-August 1954...

Is it on a looseleaf page included with the book?? Anyone know if there was a 2nd printing of Vol. 1 that had the correct caption?

Anyhow, I´m keeping my Archives uncorrected, with the sticker sticked somewhere else (in the previous blank page, as a memento) because errors like this are charming too. World´s finest is perhaps one of the best comicbooks ever. To have only three Archives of these is a frustration. But, what to do about it? Besides, not only Superman-Batman team ups are irresistible. Solo adventures are irresistible too. Maybe the Showcase line can do anything about this frustration, given that the Archives line is going on slowly now. I prefer colour, but, What can anybody do about it? The market rules. About the art: In my opinion, the art in World´s finest and in that time in DC in general reached some kind of perfection as a style, and perfection in it´s cleanness and clearness never acomplished ever again. Only Kirby and Sinnott in the FF, or recently Darwyn Cooke in new frontier, and some few others have been close to that rare perfection and maybe even a step forward, if possible (I´m mainly talking about craftsmanship and narrative skills and style). Well, that Shazam Showcase is close to that perfection too. Those apparently simple renditions by Swan, and Sprang, and the likes, and those brush finishes by Kaye, and the likes, simply take your breath away. It´s perfection in it´s kind, it´s one of a kind. I can´t believe such perfection can´t keep a suficient amount of clients in the market eager to enjoy such artistic top, as far as comicbooks are concerned. O tempora o mores.

Posts: 23 (07/09/08 4:41 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	If my memory doesn´t fail, the sticker was loose (this almost for sure, given that it had to be sticked), and probably at sight, so maybe it came on the back, as you say. In my case, I sticked it on the blank page just before the first story of the book that was the one corresponding to the correcting sticker as well. And I also sticked the explanation it brought by under the sticker with the right text.

I don't know what DC did with the as yet unsold copies. If the sticker was inserted inside the shrink wrap, does that mean they had to remove the shrink wrap from the entire print run and then re shrink wrap them?

ALL-STAR 1 and LEGION 1 didn't have any tables of contents. Their vol 2s came with a sticker page of contents to place in the vol 1s.
