Most of these books look fantastic and generally most books deserve the Absolute treatment with the only exception that I personally have is Absolute Danger Girl, I have this book because I got it cheap. Most of the Absolute books I didn't have in any format at all, books like Authority, Planetary and New Frontier come to mind. However there are some books that I had in hardcover that I sold in order to upgrade to Absolutes. Some books warranted the upgrade such as Batman Hush but I have to admit having buyers remorse and am missing books that I sold to make the upgrade. The books that I regret selling are my Graphiti S&N Kingdom Come HC, The Complete Frank Miller Batman HC and The Long Halloween. In hindsight the original releases were pretty damned fine and possibly better than the books that I replaced them with. In the case of The Dark Knight, I hated the sequel and leatherbound Miller Batman collection was a fantastic book and filled my Miller Batman needs and The Kingdom Come HC was great as it was signed by two comic greats, it is nice to look at Alex Ross's art in the large format but it was nice having such a limited edition. The Long Halloween book does look superior to the original HC but I didn't really need to upgrade this as I have all the other Loeb/Sale books in HC and now my collection feels a bit out of place. Has anyone else made decisions like this with their collections only to regret them later?

One of those is a very rare case of duplicating what I already owned. I bought the Absolute Kingdom Come, but kept my Kingdom Come hardcover. (It's the one that looks kinda like a DC Archive. Is that the Graphitti version or a different one?) I like both books, so I kept both books.

I prefer the Absolute KC just because it better showcases the art and it has all the supplementals in the Graphitti version, but then I'm not attached to signatures (I usually don't bother waiting in lines at conventions to get books signed). I have both the Complete FM Batman and Absolute DK. If you still really want the former, you can get it for pretty cheap on e-bay-- I've seen them go as low as $10! I didn't pick up Absolute Long Halloween because I didn't think the story or the art (as much as I like Tim Sale's) didn't really warrant the Absolute format or price. Has anyone else made decisions like this with their collections only to regret them later? My regrets are usually the opposite: that I keep buying stuff and never get rid of them! I don't have a specific wantlist that I carry around with me to stores or conventions so I invariably end up with duplicates that I need to get rid of.

I have Absolute Crisis and JLA/Avengers because George Perez crams so much in his work that the oversize really helps. I have Watchmen because it is freakin Watchmen! and Absolute Dark Knight because I love the sequel as much as/more than the original. Wish I had Authority and Planetary though...

Posts: 1528 (06/27/08 2:11 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	the only absolutes that i don't have are the second and third sandman volumes. i bought the first one, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet, so if i like it, i will pick up the others. even though, i LOVE the oversized stuff, i am always a bit leery of not picking them up initially for a couple of reasons. one, i can usually find a great price on them somewhere online (around 50% off), and two, i am worried that if i don't pick them up they will go out of print and the price will skyrocket until later, when i want it, i can't afford it. "There are just some things you can't compromise on. Some things you can. A new suit...yeah. Dream house...maybe. But the girl...you can't compromise on the girl."

Posts: 344 (06/27/08 3:07 PM) Registered Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	The Absolute Sandman volumes are proving to be problematic, since I now don't know what to do with my original run of HCs of the series. I have the entire series in HC already, all of them first printings bought the week each volume came out (all the way back to the first Sandman HC, the 'leather' no-dust-jacket edition of Season of Mists that came out in 1991 or 92. These are the ones before they standardized the trade dress, so each volume has its own different feel and look to it. What to do with them? They're too snazzy to just unload on ebay for five bucks a pop, but I could use the shelf space too... As for actual Absolute regrets, I'd have to say I regret not keeping my copy of Absolute League of Extraordinary Gentlemen v1... --------- ... so he caught the sausage with his pants.

I've sold off large parts of my collections to only go out and replace them. Also, I've sold off books thinking Marvel would do better editions and they haven't...I could have saved the money. I had a complete set of the large hardcover b/w DC/Crown/Harmony books from the 1970's...those 30's to the 70's titles. DC/Marvel's/Fireside Hardcovers complete set. Even the DC/Marvel/Fireside poster hardcover books and those 70's DC/Marvel calenders. Lots of the early DC/Marvel trades. Near book shelf full of prestige formatted titles. Sold those thinking Marvel's earliest Masterworks and DC's Archives would fill the bill...they didn't. I had those Titan books B/W Neal Adams Batmans...all sixin beautiful condition...now you have those Adam's remastered editions...ugh. Had Imported titles from the UK such a Titan's Judge Dredd series and the Dredd hardcover annuals. I had so much stuff...I regret selling any and all of those things...only to replace them with stuff that really doesn't.
