John Byrne End-Page Sketches |
Lead | |
|
I visited John Byrne's studio two weeks ago to pick up a few pieces that I commissioned from him back when he did the the Mid-Ohio-Con 2008 promotional poster. I've inserted below a picture of Byrne
with my Alpha Flight bound volume as well as scans of the end-page sketches that he did inAlpha Flight, Marvel Team-Up and Iron Fist bound volumes. Also,
check out theThe Mighty Mighty MOC-BLOG for more photos from my
visit to Byrne's studio.

Those are fantastic. How much did they cost?

Thanks, Shakma. Byrne prices his commissions based on number of characters, backgrounds and overall size, so they can vary quite in price a bit from one to the
next. If you're interested, Byrne's rep for commissions is Jim Warden and you can contact him through his web site http://www.whatashock.com/doasales/.

Those are great!
You got to visit his studio? Neat! What was it like? I like the first pic with all the framed original art. |

Leveret1, John Byrne's studio is very cool. Lots of comics, toys, figurines, original art, etc. Check out the photo gallery at my blog to see what's
there: http://www.midohiocon.blogspot.com/

James,
We've bound Alpha Flight for you two different ways if I remember correctly. Was this done for the red buckram volume that has the first 25 issues in it? dpbanks |

Guys,
On top of some fine bound volumes, all of you should be reading James' blog. Mucho goodness in there!

A couple of questions for James, what is the original art to the right in the picture of JB? It looks colored. Also, what do you have bound in your Marvel Team-Up volume? Thanks.

==================== David, This sketch was done in the end pages of the volume with issues 1-25 that you did in red buckram with the Alpha Flight logo die. Those issues are magic for me, so I'm pleased to have them all in one nice package with some great custom features. James

==================== Dave, I'm sorry to say that I don't know what that picture is to the right of JB's shoulder. To describe my visit as a sensory overload experience would be an understatement since there's so much to look at in his studio. I spent most of my time ogling his Jack Kirby original art and some of the recent commission pieces. If it's important to you, I can ask him what that is over at the John Byrne Forum. As for the Marvel Team-Up question, that sketch is in my MTU Volume 3, which includes issues 51-75. There's a lot of early Chris Claremont/John Byrne goodness in that run, so I was pleased to have him do that sketch. I originally thought about having him do a sketch with the Living Monolith battling Thor and Spider-Man, but I ended up with the Iron First theme instead. James P.S. Thanks for the kudos on the Mighty Might MOC-BLOG! We're working hard at that, so it's always nice to get good feedback.

Nah, I'll ask over there. I've been reading that thread as well. Thanks, though.
I'm considering a couple of volumes of Marvel Team-Up that contains Claremont and Byrne's work (collectively and individually). It will skip around, but it's the issues I remember best. Maybe someday, I'll get around to it. Vol 1 53-55, 57-70, Annual 1, 2 19 issues (21 equivalent) Vol 2 74-77, 79-86, 88, 89, 100 18 issues (19 equivalent)
