I'm tempted to hit the ask a question link and ask if he knows that the cost of binding was $15 per book and that spine lettering comes with it.

His claim that "everything is intact" is false when you can clearly see in that last pic that the back cover was removed.

I haven't found anyone in town who does it that inexpensively. With shipping it averages out to $25 a book if I send out four at a time.

Golden Age

As someone who is very unfamiliar with those comics, how much would they typically cost - ballpark figure - in bind-worthy condition?

Probably about a dollar each, and in most cases that would be overpriced unless you're counting the shipping costs. Most of those issues were $1.25 cover price, so you'd probably pay that if you were shopping in an actual store.

It's early 90s Marvel, there's a ton of copies around. There might be the odd one that you need to pay $2 for, just because when you're dealing with a range of issues like that, there's always one that's an outlier (and never the one you'd expect). So, we're looking no more than $20-30 per volume.

Again, it depends on the bells and whistles. I average $25- 30 per book, but my Miracleman set was about $240, including a slipcase that is beyond spiffy.

Do you know how mad I'll be if they sell for that price?

Anyhow, I thought I'd be polite. I contacted the seller and gave him all the information on those Spider-Man binds so he knows what they cost me and all that and wished him luck.

The guy seems nice enough. Turns out he was going off of a quote he got that wasn't comparible to Library.

Well, I've decided to put up some bound volumes on ebay. Two are singles and the Avengers one is a HUGE run that you have to read the description of to appreciate.

MARVELS/MARVELS 2: Eye of the Camera/RUINS
Marvel 2099 (vol. 1)
HUGE Bendis era Avengers (and that's just the beginning)

Amazing what you did with those Avengers comics! (I normally hate it when people pull the comics apart and remove anything, but to construct a coherent narrative out of all that... Wow!)

Those water damaged Spidey books seem at least 900% overpriced, with $75 - $100 for the bunch seeming fair.

Thanks. I love doing that and plan on doing it to a lot of stuff. I heavily debated on selling these as I love the volumes but since binding them I've decided that I would have prefered it more streamlined. I'd rather have bound Young Avengers, Ellis' Thunderbolts, and possibly the Initiative separate and make these more Bendis Avengers centric. I figured I'd start bidding at $300 and that way if they sell I don't feel completely jipped and if the bidding goes higher than that I'll be happy... and if they don't sell at all then I still have my binds, win/win.

Awesome Avengers book series Hobbit! I have the same thing waiting to go to the binders except mine starts with Civil War (its the Event that brought me back to comics) and Im running my thread all the way thru to end with Fear Itself....though Im gonna make sure I have a clean ending with the Heroic Age, cause after that it started going downhill...

Yeah, it ran for I think 2 or 3 years in every Spider-Man title (5 at the time) plus minis and crossovers and all that. It was an epic but a very good one. Despite the criticisms it's probably one of my favorite comicbook stories to date. The ending didn't make sense but by that time they were just undoing it to move on anyhow so it didn't matter.
