My condolences to his family and friends. Starred in many of my favorite early film memories - Ben Hur, El Cid, Planet of The Apes, The Omega Man, Soylent Green amongst many others. Tarik

Those three were great actors, but you're right about Widmark.

I gotta see the restored version of Major Dundee with Heston though. I hear they did some significant additions that were edited out of the theatrical release and TV versions we've been seeing for the last few decades.

Four of my favorite actors ever of their period, and they're all gone now - two of them in two weeks - except for Kirk Douglas. I always thought Widmark was one of the most underrated of the major stars. I remember being impressed when Sidney Poitier said Widmark was one of the finest men he ever knew, in a documentary about him several years ago.
