Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Steve Englehart and Roger Stern were the good doctor's main scribes and personally I think Roger Stern was the best of them all.
As good as his work on Spiderman and Avengers was, IMHO Doc Strange was the only character that Stern actually wound up beating all competition on, with Englehart coming in a close second.
AFAIC Roger's run on Doc Strange from #47 - #75 is the best run on sorceror supreme, boasting brilliant necromantic artwork by luminaries such as Marshall Rogers, Mike Golden and Paul Smith.
Damn I wish Marvel would reprint this stuff in a nice Omnibus.
Roger also scripted one of my favourite single issues of Doc during his first run, namely #30 A Gathering of Fear, which also boasted great Tom Sutton interiors and a classic Frank Brunner cover.
As far as Doc artists are concerned, my favourites are; Frank Brunner, Paul Smith, Mike Golden, Steve Ditko, Marschall Rogers, Gene Colan, Mark Buckingham (in that order).
