I thought I would share with you the first attempt at mapping out Volume 1, which will include James Hudson/Vindicator's first appearance, through his death in issue 12 of the regular series. Here's how I have it mapped. Please let me know if I am missing any appearances that aren't merely cameo appearances. Alpha Flight Vol. 1: X-Men #109 (reprinted in Classic X-Men #16) X-Men #120, 121 (reprinted in Classic X-Men #26 & 27) X-Men #139, 140 (reprinted in Classic X-Men #45 & 46) Machine Man #18 Incredible Hulk Annual #8 (written by John Byrne featuring Sasquatch) Marvel Two-In-One #83 & 84 Alpha Flight #1 - 8 Rom #56 - 58 Alpha Flight #9 - 12 Thats 24 issues with a good stopping point for the first volume. Alpha Flight Vol. 2 Alpha Flight #13 Marvel Team-Up Annual #7 (The Marvel Chronology Project has this before Alpha Flight #13, but I'm wondering if this wouldn't read better in this spot.) Crystar #11 (Alpha Flight guest stars but will I need other Crystar issues to understand this final issue) Alpha Flight #14 - 21 X-Men/Alpha Flight #1 - 2 Alpha Flight #22 Power Pack #9 - 10 (Marinna story) Alpha Flight #23 - 25 Alpha Flight #26 - 28 (Byrnes' last issue) Hulk #313 Alpha Flight #29 (continuation of Hulk issue) There will be more to come as I map out the rest of the volumes, but for now I need to know how accurate and complete this list is?? Am I forgetting something important.

I am including instances where the cast of Alpha Flight make what look like prominent appearances in other books, but I am questioning whether or not I should include some of these. Hence, I'm putting a "?" next to the issues in question. Heres the list: Alpha Flight Vol. 2 Alpha Flight #13 Marvel Team-Up Annual #7 (The Marvel Chronology Project has this before Alpha Flight #13, but I'm wondering if this wouldn't read better in this spot.) Crystar #11 ??? (Alpha Flight guest stars but will I need other Crystar issues to understand this final issue) Alpha Flight #14 - 21 X-Men/Alpha Flight #1 - 2 Alpha Flight #22 - 25 Iron-Man #195 - 196 ??? (Shaman guest stars) Alpha Flight #26 - 28 (Byrnes' last issue) Hulk #313 Alpha Flight #29 (continuation of Hulk issue) That makes this volume 24 issues long (like the first volume). Is there anything I'm missing?? Any opinions on what is being included??

Posts: 12773 (03/22/07 4:25 PM) Golden Age Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Of those I've only read Iron Man #195-6 and the MTU Annual (assuming it's the one where they encounter the Collector). I would consider the Iron Man appearance quite inessential and skippable -- it has nothing to do with Alpha Flight lore really. I would consider the MTU Annual a quite nice inclusion since it deals with the Collector having a bunch of other Plodex in his ship as well and Marrina freaks out real bad about it, so it's theoretically a strong moment for Marrina's character. -- Retroactive Comics - 60s, 70s, 80s style comic books! This consists of: Alpha Flight (vol.2) #-1 Alpha Flight (vol.2) #1-20 Alpha Flight/Inhumans '98 Annual X-Men/Alpha Flight (vol.2) #1-2 Sunfire & Big Hero 6 #1-3 Alpha Flight (vol.3) #1-12 #-1 goes before (vol.2) #1. (vol.2) #-1, #1 and #12 are double-sized. XM/AF (vol.2) occurs in the eighties and does not tie in to the ongoing in any significant way, so could be placed anywhere. AF/INH '98 can be placed fairly precisely in relation to the ongoing because it mentions Murmur's injuries. I'll have to double-check but I believe it goes between #16-17. Big Hero 6 takes place between #13 and #17, because Sunfire leaves AF in #13, and then BH6 guest stars in #17. The LS could happen anywhere between these issues, but I'm inclined to put it between #16 and #17, because the Annual is already there to interrupt the flow of the ongoing anyway -- plus, the later point gets the (Lobdell-written) LS closer to (the Lobdell-written) vol.3. Things that could arguably be included: Maverick #3 (guest stars Vindicator and Puck from the vol.2 era) Uncanny X-Men #355 (retells AFv2 #9 from the X-Men's point of view) I'm inclined to leave both out. The Maverick appearance has nothing important to Heather or Judd, they're just walk-on guests. UXM #355 has more of a claim, but since it's the exact same story as #9 anyway, only from the other side of the fence, I'm inclined to think I don't need to include the same story twice. I'm also going with the premise of making the books roughly even-sized. This means that some of v2 will bleed over to v3's volume. If I wanted to separate v2 and v3 into different volumes, I'd be dealing with a 30-issue volume and a 12-issue volume. Some of you might want to do that; I don't. So, provisionally: Alpha Flight Vol.8: Conspiracy (22 issues) Alpha Flight #-1 Alpha Flight (vol.2) #1-16 X-Men/Alpha Flight #1-2 Alpha Flight Vol.9: Together Again (21 issues) Alpha Flight/Inhumans '98 Sunfire & Big Hero 6 #1-3 Alpha Flight #17-20 Alpha Flight (vol.3) #1-12 I'm considering including the issue of New Avengers where they were killed. However, I haven't read the issue, and since its written by Bendis, the tone and style of the book probably won't match all the issues that came before it. Just something to consider. S2M
