Posts: 1370 May 15 13 12:31 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm watching "Silver Nemesis" and it is a total mess; laughable and maddeningly illogical...but there are some good ideas and the ingredients for an interesting story here. It's weird how cartoonish the Cybermen are in the story, yet you get some good stuff with McCoy being a chess master and the scenes with the Nemesis statue. Really an odd story.

Posts: 4752 May 15 13 7:19 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The only way to deal with SILVER NEMESIS is to treat is as a high-paced "season finale" (which is exactly what it was intended to be). As has been pointed out, half the plot is an almost exact retread of REMEMBRANCE OF THE DALEKS (which opened the season), but with "more" added-- lots more-- despite it being only 3 episodes instead of 4 or more. It's all "short-cut"-- like you're supposed to be able to fillin the gaps yourself. "Oh, seen that, been there, done that"-- then move on and try to focus purely on the "new" elements. Whci, frankly, is a terrible way to tell any story, especially when they inbsist on including SO MANY really stupid scenes, lioke the one with the lady from America which was intended to be funny (but isn't). It's one thing for DOCTOR WHO to be doing sequels to stories we've never seen (almost every Tom Baker "monster from the dark past" story does that), but to be blatently trying to shove a sequel to a story about THE DOCTOR at us that we've never seen is just going too damn far. And they did it several times with McCoy-- the other painfully obvious case being THE CURSE OF FENRIC, which at least got 4 episode even if it needed 5. My favorite part of SILVER NEMESIS was the way Ace took on the Cybermen in the rafters of the barn. She went, in one year, from someone I genuinely hated, to a favorite. That's amazing.

My favorite scenes are the ones with the statue because the make the Doctor look like a devious and manipulative character...I don't understand how the Nazis overtook the Cybermen in the castle. The way they're treated in the story is inexcusable, especially when they have their gold detector and reatreat at the mere sight of gold. Ugh.
