spectacular shocker wrote:For the first time, I recently saw the great suspense film Charade (1963), starring Cary Grant & Audrey Hepburn. Superb thriller, and if I didn't know otherwise I would have sworn this film was directed by Hitchcock, since it had all of the elements of a good Hitch film, i.e. a suspenseful story, espionage, a great fight scene on a rooftop, a chase scene in a train station, people passing away mysteriously, and a final story twist that truly caught me by surprise. Also, the Cary Grant character in Charade reminded me a lot of his character in North by Northwest, i.e. a wise-cracker who made jokes even in the face of danger
To add to my above post from about 4 1/2 years ago re: Charade, I recently watched a DVD double-feature of this film & the excellent re-make The Truth about Charlie (2002), starring Mark Wahlberg, Thandie Newton, and Tim Robbins. Very well-done film, and, like Charade, very Hitchcock-ian in appearance & execution. The scenery of Paris was very impressive, and the storyline was suspenseful as well. I liked how the opening credits at the beginning of the film were obviously an homage to Hitchcock (and other) suspense films from the 1960's.
Unrelated to Charade, TTAC also has a couple of homages to the classic French film Shoot the Piano Player:
And, here's the trailer:
Obviously, Charade is a superior film - but, TTAC was well-done and worth seeing.

I really enjoyed watching the Hedren/Hitchcock biopic THE GIRL(2012). After my most recent viewing of MARNIE(1964) I felt quite sad that Tippi and Hitch didn't do more movies together(particularly their very promising project MARY ROSE).

Thanks for all this information, HeroesandVillians. Alfred Hitchcock remains an intriguing person in our mass pop culture.
Are you award of the show "Welcome to Hitchcock" that is being made?
