Also enjoying for the first time in many years Southside Johnny's first two albums. A new reissue has all his Epic albums (plus the Bottom Line official boot) remastered and on 2 cds. Just listened to disc 1 at the moment. I had forgotten how good that second album was. I have them all on vinyl but not played them for a long time. This is a very good cd version though, very full. Had a best of cd which sounded weak as anything, this puts the oomph back.

I saw him on the tour he did for The Jukes (the 4th album) which would have been just before they recorded the shows for Reach Up and Touch The Sky. such a great live act, it's a shame he never really broke out and had better selling records, but at least he's had a career out of it.
Didn't know he did an album of the Men Without Women material, he does mention in the liner notes of the new compilation that they recorded about 8 of the songs for Hearts of Stone. I shall have to look for that. Men Without Women is another album I only have on vinyl and will have to dig out (along with those two Gary US Bonds albums).

I don't think I have played it more than three times in the 27 years I have owned it.
it came out after his best album in 15 years (Oh Mercy) which made us think he was back. Then, THIS.......
The first time I heard it my response was utter disbelief. I played it a second time to see if it was as bad as I thought. If anything it was worse. It got filed away, and I think I played it again when I bought a CD copy at last (it was about the last one I upgraded along with Dylan and The Dead and Self Portrait) and it was still just as bad. There are better versions around of a couple of the songs but on the whole it was a career low.
Not sure how much I am looking forward to his new one next week, I don't mind these cover version albums, but they are not great and three CDs of stuff? Oh well, I shall give it a try! What do you think of Under The Red Sky by the way?
