Plus they kind of look the same.4=四Death = 死亡 (you have to imagine that the two characters are merged)The word for Eight sounds like the word for Prosperity. Plus symmetry is highly valued so "8" is attractive. The western "8" is obviously a newer idea so the sound is the main thing but the popularity grew. FYI this is eight in Chinese: 八You won't see fourth floors in most hotels the same way you don't see 13th floors in the US. One example of the "8" love is the eighth tower on the great wall (which is near Beijing) is considered very lucky and it's where everyone stands to get their picture.

My poor Tribe, my poor Cleveland, my poor Ohio. So damn close. This one hurt more than the loss in '97 to the Marlins.
I wanted to cry. Seriously.
I've been following this team since at least 1966. I remained a fan even when they stunk on ice back in the 70s and 80s, when one had to surf on the piss and vomit in the restrooms at old Cleveland Stadium to use the urinal troughs...and watch that the guy next to you didn't shake too energetically.
Back in the days of Ten-Cent Beer Night...the last real revolt of the Mid-West industrial proletariat, back when we traded Rocky Colavito to the Tigers for a manager, back when we first appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated as favorites to win it all back in '87, back when the river caught on fire, back when the mayor's hair caught on fire, when Pere Ubu became an underground avant-garage anti-sensation, back when Donald Trump wanted to buy the team.
Regardless, Go Tribe!!!!!
PS: Ooops. Rocky Colavito was traded for Harvey Kuenn, not a manager. A previous general manager for the Indians traded managers at one point. Doesn't matter. Colavito should've never been traded.

While they should be pretty good I'm not buying into the hype.Of course they are. And every Cubs fan can thank me for that.I was on the Cubs' season ticket list for 7-8 years. Got the call this off season and my number was up. Meaning, I had the option to buy season tix.Had to pass as I'm no longer living in Chicago, and... well, tickets are damned expensive. Cheapest option for a set of two was something like 3500. Maybe 4k. And those are nosebleed seats.Could I have made a profit off re-selling them? Most likely. (Definitely, if they make it to the post-season...)But, I made the decision (and I thought about it for awhile) to say no thanks.
