Is Mystery in Space 75 really that essential? Was it more than a guest star appearance? DC didn't have crossovers back then

Not to mention the 4 Absolute Editions, 3 Deluxe Editions, and 3 Tales of the Batman HC collections scheduled for the rest of 2014.

DC Archives are great, but many volumes are OOP and impossible to find at reasonable prices. Moving on to the 50's, the "Batman in the 1950's" trade from around 15 years ago is all there is as far as I know. It whet my appetite for Atomic Age Batman, but there's been no follow up in all that time. 60's Batman isn't my cup of tea, but I don't believe there's much in colour for those who are fans of this era. I would love some 70s/80s collections in colour, but the artist-centric collections like "Tales of the Batman"are missing pages and covers and even the conclusion to stories. B/W Showcases don't really cut it for me, and the Neal Adams books have awful re-coloring. It's great that the New 52 fans are getting so much, but the classic material fans not so much. Marvel's collected editions have done such an exceptional job in comparison that it makes DC look even lamer.

DC makes it a point to include issues in the solicit and then LEAVE THEM OUT OF THE BOOK. It is Clowntown, plain and simple, and they should be embarrassed. Name the last book that Marvel RELEASED that did not match the solicits. Now name how many books Marvel has released that have included tons of extras. DC have continually released incomplete books, books missing pages, etc, for YEARS.

Modern Age
On the other hand, a well-curated $25-$30 paperback might pique their curiousity, and be something they'd be willing to pick up on impulse.

the best example of this is last year's Superman by Gil Kane HC collection - I was truly looking forward to this & when I finally got it, I found that there were a couple of covers missing because Kane didn't draw them - though, the respective comics themselves were included. The whole point I buy collections like this is so that I won't have to get the individual floppies, so skipping covers almost defeats the purpose of having these collections.

It's Superman by Gil Kane. If I was a Gil Kane fan and I bought that book I would want only Gil Kane work represented.

I have that collection, and it's incomplete - the covers of several issues (with non-Gil Kane art) are missing.
