dearlenbaugh: "And yet, around 3 p.m. on Jan. 1st, over on the January 1963 Time Capsule thread you still posted the covers of the comics you bought back then. THAT is a true comics fan!"
I have the lists of what comics I bought each month worked out in advance and just have to cut and paste them on the first of each month. dearlenbaugh: "Yowzers! Did you recognize at the time that you were having a heart attack? That must have been god-awful scary since you were there alone."
My son Tecumseh and his wife Falcon were out on an all-night date for New Years, and I was home watching a Jimi Hendrix documentary. I had pain in my whole upper back, my left arm, and my left chest for three hours, but I thought it might be kidney stones as I had had them twice before, and so I sat in a comfortable living room chair until the pain went away. The clinic that I go to in Greensboro, Pennsylvania was closed for New Years, so I couldn't see a doctor until the morning of January 2. Tests showed that I had had a heart attack, and the doctor sent me immediately to Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Their testing revealed that I needed more serious surgery than they could provide, so they transferred me by ambulance to Washington Hospital.
Indefatigable Fjor: "Were there any warning signs, or was it a complete surprise??"
I had been having these pains with increasing severity over nine months whenever I would walk for more than two blocks or load a synthesizer into my van to go to the recording studio. My doctor thought they were more likely some type of back problem than a heart problem, but a back specialist told me they weren't just a week before the heart attack.

Yossarian: "Best wishes for a quick and complete recovery, and for a successful course of therapy. I am glad you have returned home."
I'll be homebound with no driving for six weeks with in-home therapy three times a week. I'm not allowed to lift anything over five pounds, and my son Tecumseh has to do my grocery shopping for me.

Phonics Monkey: "Hang in there, Todd. I hope that you are able to continue your Friday night new comic tradition during your recovery. I messed up my foot in late summer 2012 and was housebound for six weeks. I was grateful to have a ton of books to read during that time."
For many years, I kept damn-near current on the reading of my new books, but with the beginning of the recording process of my new and most complex album ever in May 2013, I began slipping further and further behind until I now have a pile of thirty-some unread collected editions. I'll probably read about three per week until I'm able to start recording again in April.
