I'm working on a project that has me thinking more about the early days of comics, such as EC and Fiction House. Although I've enjoyed reading comics from the 1930s and '40s, I've never been able to pinpoint key characteristics of the art style the way I can pinpoint elements of the stories themselves (short stories, lots of build up, big twist on the last page or last panel). I know this era used a more-limited, flat color palette with plenty of primary colors, but that's about the extent of my art knowledge from this timeframe.
Many of you read the PS books that reprints these old classics, as well as the EC stories and the Atlas-era Marvel books, so I thought I'd ask the question here: Anyone have insite on these old books and their art style? What stands out as the key differences in art style between these Golden Age books and those from other eras?
