If I offer one steak at $10 and another at $50 which one will you assume is better?
Would people n this board be as excited about buying HC Masterworks if they were only $5 each? I'm sure some people get a thrill over the expense and exclusivity/rarity the books offer.

But however you want to interpret it, it's only something to be overly alarmed about it you're the type to get overly alarmed about that kind of stuff. I'll bet any DC Chronicles volume will be just as much fun (and as easy) to read, say, fifty years from now as it is today.

I'm sure you could pull something off in a similar fashion for a Marvel line. I myself have very few "real" Masterworks - I've bound the "keepable" contents of my comic boxes (and jettisoned the remainder) so they are all the buckram covers from the binders. I had hoped to eventually design and create dustjackets, but I can see how unnecessary it is. Now that it's been pointed out, I'm looking forward to an Atlas MMW softcover late next year! Thanks guys
