Posts: 45 Feb 26 12 10:42 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	While Fantagraphics and IDW are just killing it with high quality reprints of classic comics, Image is HANDS DOWN, the best publisher of monthly comics in the US. I bet I have more Image comics in my tablet right now than any other publisher. I'll probably try almost every one of these titles for at least a first issue. Every week I try to sample a new title from them, be it from Comixology or Keenspot. (Anyone not reading Skullkickers as a monthly or a trade needs to read it for free on Keenspot. New page uploaded every weekday, and yes you can read the entire archives to catch up.)

Posts: 17 Feb 27 12 10:20 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I attended Image Expo on Friday and Saturday, and attended both the Image Keynote Address on Friday and the Image 20th Anniversary Panel on Saturday. About the only monthly comics I buy are from Image, and I was really excited about some of those announcements. Really love Nick Spencer's work on Morning Glories (and pretty much everything else he's done as well), so I'll be giving Bedlam a try for sure. Also looking forward to the Joe Casey projects. I really enjoyed his run on Youngblood back in 2008, and I'm enjoying his take on Haunt as well. Here's hoping that the proposed Haunt cartoon project (announced at the 20th anniversary panel) gets off the ground. For those who are wondering, someone did ask about Image United (the long delayed miniseries by the Image founders). It is still being actively worked on, but it is still not finished. I think the thing I enjoyed most about Image Expo was that the con was about comic books, granted it was mostly about Image Comics but there was a gaggle of small press creators along with fellow comic book publishers IDW, Aspen Comics and Archaia exhibiting. In fact, the only media panels were focused on Image properties (the "Talking Dead" panel, for example, which I was not able to attend). I also enjoyed the fact that the con was not overly crowded, one actually had time to chat a bit with most of the creators in attendance (even the big names like Todd McFarlane, Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri). I also picked up one of the ultra-rare Walking Dead #94 black and white variant covers which was limited to only 200 worldwide! Wish I could have attended on Sunday as well, but I had to catch my flight home. Ah well, still had a really good time.

Brandon Graham will do "Multiple Warheads" in October Joe Casey then came to the stage to discuss SEX, illustrated by Piotr Kowalski. Another Casey series, "Bounce," will be drawn by David Messina. Darick Robertson then joined the panel to discuss "Oliver" with writer Gary Whitta. Kelly Sue Deconnick ascended the dais to discuss "Pretty Deadly," her book with Emma Rios. "It's our attempt to revive the spirit of Sergio Leone," she said. "It is a Western assassin competing for a prize she does not necessarily want." Chris Roberson will write "Rain," with art by Paul Mayberry. James Robinson came next, promoting "Saviors" with J. Bone. Howard Chaykin and Matt Fraction joined the panel, who are collaborating on "Samurai Sam." "The idea of conflating the Hopalong Cassidy stuff ... with the hardboiled crime stuff really appealed to me," Chaykin said. Stephenson then recapped the announcement that J. Michael Straczynski would be resurrecting the Joe's Comics imprint with four new titles. Greg Rucka also joined, and he does have a project to announce: "Lazarus," with artist Michael Lark, for Spring 2013. "The log line is 'Godfather' meets 'Children of Men,' Finally, Stephenson announced Jay Faerber's "Point of Impact," coming in October, and "Great Pacific" by Joe Harris.

I just read through Midnight Nation a few weeks ago, and thought it was a lot better than a lot of people review it as. I may start on Rising Stars within the next few weeks, also.
