It seemed like the only people who had any real knowledge of comicbooks was Kevin & Walt. The guy who doesn't work at the store, but hangs around all the time was rude and annoying. Won't be watching this again...

I don't really like Kevin Smith anymore, I use to be a huge fan but his laziness in getting his comic work done turned me off. His comic writing is pretty good buy waaaaay over-hyped. I've actually been to their comic store, without the Kevin Smith name behind it it would have closed years ago. I was very underwhelmed by what they had available. Scott F

How common is it to have a certificate of authenticity attached to a signed comic? I would think it would be bloody rare. The Negative Zone Stan Lee, 1968: " ... And we talk it out. Lately, I've had Roy Thomas come in, and he sits and makes notes while we discuss it. Then he types them up which gives us a written synopsis. Originally-I have a little tape recorder-I had tried taping it, but then I found no one on staff has time to listen to the tape again later. But this way he makes notes, types it quickly, I get a carbon, the artist gets a carbon...so we don't have to worry that we'll forget what we've said. Then the artist goes home...or wherever he goes...and he draws the thing out, brings it back, and I put the copy in after he's drawn the story based on the plot I've given him. Now this varies with the different artists. Some artists, of course, need a more detailed plot than others. Some artists, such as Jack Kirby, need no plot at all. I mean I'll just say to Jack, 'Let's make the next villain be Dr. Doom'... or I may not even say that. He may tell me. And then he goes home and does it. He's good at plots. I'm sure he's a thousand times better than I. He just about makes up the plots for these stories. All I do is a little editing... I may tell him he's gone too far in one direction or another. Of course, occasionally I'll give him a plot, but we're practically both the writers on the things. "

Posts: 4836 Feb 19 12 8:38 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I didn't think they were honestly skeptical because there wasn't a certificate; I thought they were making an excuse for lowering the price to a level they were willing to pay. Having been in that situation (not entirely willingly; I worked at a store that bought old comics from time to time, and I was one of the few people there who knew anything about old comics), I know that you'll say anything that will make the books seem worth less.

But right about the time he never finished "Daredevil: Targets" and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back came out, I got really turned off by him. Even when he "made good" on releasing his comic stuff on time "Batman: Widening Gyre" I wasn't very interested in reading it. Just dull stuff. I usually trust my gut instinct on if I'll like/dislike something, and I didn't think this'd be the show for me. After reading the Comics Alliance review, the rebuttle and statements on here, I'm inclined to agree with my first choice. The show is poopy and I'm not going to waste my time. There are actually many collectors who would avoid a key book being signed at all. A lot of people don't like things like sigs, date stamps,etc... on key books of high value and consider them defects. Still dead artist, writers will have value for their sigs to someone who wants them. Prices otherwise vary a lot since to some people it means little. As a rule I've always tried to have the insides of a book signed and avoid the cover. I don't care about reselling the book but like most people I like my covers clean. I always have dupes of any covers that got signed when that happened. Cert. are only as good as the person/company behind them but there are pros that can correctly identify autographs. I have a friend that works on sports and celebrity autographs and he can spot a fake pretty easily but you need to see a original to compare. Thanks to fakes in the sports collecting community California has some pretty strict laws if you are found guilty of selling fakes. A horror story for you. In the past I've known of a comic shop owner who had a certain artist do a signing. After the artist left the shop the owner looked over some of the signed copies of books and proceeded to forge stacks of copies of books by copying the sig. and reselling them at a premium later. Not the first time I heard of this either.I also know of a few people (artists and actors) that have actually gone around to some booths at conventions and called dealers out for selling fake autographs. Nothing like having the real person in the flesh call you out for selling something they never signed. Since he died I've seen a lot of fake Kirby sigs on books too over the years. So yeah, you need to be careful. .. ... The Pick!
