My dad didn't really collect much, or have many "hobbies" as such, but he did have a lot of record albums. Nothing that would be expensive or rare today, mostly 50's to early 70's country, German, polka, and big band stuff. But he had enough that I was exposed to that black spinning disc probably since I came home from the hospital after my birth. So I would say that I have always loved records, and they were the one thing that my dad would not mind buying me (most comics and toys were "stupid and worthless" to him). So in the early to mid 70's I got a lot of story records, which I played over and over until I basically knew all the scripts by heart. Power Records of the comics, Disneyland records, Golden records, and lots of miscellaneous and no - name records.
In other words, these were a huge part of my youth.
When I got a bit older, I started buying music cassette tapes and then CD's on my own, and all my old records (except the Power records, which were made part of my comic collection) were packed away, never to be seen again.
Flash forward to about 15 years ago when I started getting into all the older EC reprints, and really started to notice the artists of that time and into the 60's and 70's. Wally Wood was one of those guys that I grew to enjoy whenever I saw any of his pages. I knew that I probably didn't have any of his comics as a kid, but something seemed familiar about his style, something that just felt right.
Flash again to just a few days ago, I was convincing myself to spend the cash to get the new Wally Wood Strange Worlds of Science Fiction from Vanguard. So I go to TOW to order and I see the softcover, the hardcover, the Deluxe Hardcover... "wait a minute... I KNOW THAT ARTWORK!!!!" "THAT'S FROM ONE OF MY RECORDS FROM WHEN I WAS LIKE FIVE YEARS OLD!!!!!!!".
I then tear downstairs to go through storage boxes of my dad's records. Lot's and lot's of boxes. And I find nothing of mine. And I find a few boxes with MY old records. Lots of old Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Motorhead, Maiden, early Priest and Nugent, but no story records.
I think "oh man, did my mom throw all of those out for some reason? Or maybe sell them at a garage sale?". Then, all the way in the corner with other boxes on top, I find a handled record case that's just the size to hold maybe 50 LP's. I pull it out and look inside... SCORE!!! And the memories come flooding back. I just love when something you see, hear, smell, taste immediately takes you back to a place you may not have thought about in many years.
And I have spent a good part of the last 2 days scanning and stitching together those scans in Photoshop for no other reason other than I wanted to share some cool artwork with my buddies here.

Wally Wood providing the art for the storybook version of Wonderland Records (Golden Records) War of the Worlds. I swear that I can still hear the words and sounds from this record. And that's not even my favorite of the Wood stuff I found!!!
