I hope that DC can give us more and more TPB's of material from the 40's to the 80's. I'd prefer it all in Archives, but with the seeming slowdown in Archives, and the length of time we'd have to wait for titles in the Superman/Batman/Captain Marvel families to be Archived at this rate, I would be MORE than happy to settle for color TPB's, much like Marvel's Classic TPB and Visionaries TPB lines. I'm one of the guys who doesn't buy for the hard cover, I buy for the interior presentation on white paper and vibrant colors.
The key for me (and my purchasing habits) is that color TPB's present issues chronologically without skipping issues, and reprint all the original covers at full size.
I know the Chronicles are a version of this idea, but, not owning them, I'm not sure they're printed on the kind of paper that I would want to see in TPB's.
Plus, I'm talking about TPB's of material from 5 decades. If soft covers and lower price points meant that DC could produce a lot more volumes for us, I'd jump at the chance to see so much more of DC's catalog in color reprints. I'd buy them ALL.
Again, I'm not so much advocating TPB's instead of Archives in the future. I'd prefer Archives. But if we're going to have HUGE gaps in titles between the 40's and 80's, I'd hope to see whatever isn't Archived find its way into chronological and comprehensive color TPB's with all individual issue covers reprinted.
Marvel's Classic TPB line seems a good example to me of how DC could present a lot more of their material at a more affordable price for a lot of people, and thus eventually be making money from reprints that might never see the light of day in hardcover form. Money for DC is better than "no money" for DC.
I'm sure the price points/profits of HC's/SC's vs. the costs of restoration figures into this equation, and that's part of what I hope to discuss and learn about in this thread.
Anyway, I'd enjoy hearing what you guys have to say about DC producing many more comprehensive color TPB's reprinting their titles' runs from wherever the Archives eventually leave off, and through the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's, and what titles you'd like to see.
Thanks for any replies!
