Not much of any Batman film has anything at all that can be said to be faithful to the source material. If anything, the comics have adapted somewhat to become closer to the films (the look of Gotham, etc.). With GL, I felt like I was watching the comic book characters much more than any Bat or Super film. Too bad that didn't play well to the uninitiated.

I still expect a sequel to Green Lantern. It's on track to make 300 million worldwide and more than that in DVD sales.

But it certainly looks like Warners took a big loss on Watchmen. When it was released, industry analysts figured that it needed to make over $200 million domestically to be considered a success, due to its estimated $130 million budget (plus marketing costs). It only made about half that. Also recall the legal mess surrounding the film -- Paramount ended up with foreign distribution rights and Fox received as much as 8.5% of the gross. It wasn't a huge seller on DVD either.

Domestic: $89,311,000 75.2% + Foreign: $29,400,000 24.8% = Worldwide: $118,711,000 I think that it will be lucky if it even hits $200 million worldwide at this point. That foreign number is a particularly bad sign for the film. Both Thor ($436 million worldwide, 59.4% foreign) and X-Men First Class ($317 million worldwide, 58.1% foreign) are doing better overseas than at home, and that that trend was establishing pretty early on their releases. So, unless there are some vast foreign markets that Green Lantern hasn't opened in yet, I think that the movie is pretty much toast as far as sequel justifying profitability goes.

If you mean that the last Batman portrayed in a movie and the comic book Batman both wear cowls and have secret identities as millionaire playboys, then yeah, but that's about it. Comic Book Batman - Form fitting costume, cowl the size of his own head, swings on rope and runs across rooftops, usually strikes fear into criminals by not showing much emotion even under attack Nolan Batman - Rubber "Power Rangers" body armor, odd looking egg shaped cowl, mostly relies on glider cape to get around, screams at criminals in a gutteral shout that either comes off as cheesy or a lame attempt at appearing "on the edge". And that's just for starters...

The production budget is said to be about 200 million. That doesn't take into account promotion (which is said to be an additional 100 million)--but promotion is usually never counted as part of the production budget.
