First off, I won't put any spoilers in this first post, but I can't guarantee the rest of the thread. I went to a screening of the movie last night, and I thought it was really good, remaining pretty faithful to the comics. Even my father, who knows nothing about Green Lantern liked it, probably better than most of the superhero movies he's been to with me.
I thought the casting was very well done, especially Hal, Carol, Sinestro, and Hector Hammond. The only one that didn't feel completely right to me was Pieface. They guy playing him wasn't bad, he just didn't look like Tom Kalmaku to me, that's all. The CG effects were well done, as was the 3-D, the story was clear and easy to follow, even to my father, and it held your interest. There was a good balance of Hal and GL screentime, and Earth and Oa scenes.
If I had any complaints, I'd say that Hal's training sequence could have been a bit longer. It seemed like they just spent a few minutes smacking him around and threw him into the job. The second thing is the first real confrontation between GL and Hector Hammond. ***Fair warning, if any part of this post could be called a spoiler, this next part could, but only a very minor one, if even one at all. I just have to describe the setup a little bit to discuss my criticiscm, and I'll try to do so without giving anything away.*** They explained earlier in the movie (and just briefly) that the ring would alert Hal to trouble. Perhaps I missed something, but GL seemed to appear out of nowhere when Hammond first went berserk. There was no way I could see for Hal to know about it, other than the ring, but they didn't seem to make that very clear. In the larger scope of the movie, these are just minor criticisms, and didn't hurt my enjoyment of the film.
One more thing, there is a final scene after the credits, but it's not like the Marvel movies where you have to sit through ALL of the credits. The scene came after the principle credits, and is worth waiting for, as it sets up for the second movie!
