Did you ever think of moving some of your collection into storage?
That way you get the extra room in your house without sacrificing your collection.
I had practically my whole collection in storage for 8 years because I didn't have any room
at all where I lived. It can be expensive, but it would only be a temporary measure until
you get yourself sorted out.

Except for one thing.
Things have a habit of going out of print, and can be become very hard to find later.
I have lost lots of books and comics in previous moves and have spent a lot of time
trying to track them down again later at reasonable price. Some things are just irreplaceable.

You're over using the term "irreplaceable" You COULD have bought copies, but you chose to find cheaper copies. That's not 'irreplaceable' - that's just being picky. The only things that are truly irreplaceable are original art. But for mine, I have digital copies. So if I ever sell my collection, or it gets damaged, I'll still "have" it.

DP, it sounds like you're suffering from a collector's mentality, of where you place an elevated importance on your possessions, and can't accept that they're just crap that you own. Don't get me wrong. I suffer from the same disease. I want to purge, but I have a tough time doing so.

I agree that about 90% of my possessions would probaby fit in the above category, but the other 10% I would put in
the category of irreplaceable.  This probably fits in more with books than comics.
An example, I bought the Collected Ghost of E F Benson when it was new.
When I last moved I thought I had lost it somewhere, because I couldn't find it anywhere.
It had been long out of print, and I couldn't find another copy for love 'nor money.
In this case I finally did find it in a box in my storage unit, that I had overlooked,
and I breathed a sigh of relief, but I have lost other books in similar ways.

Some things I read and pass on, others I read and keep.
I agree that I could probably pass on more and keep less,
and that I will never read what I have got in a hundred lifetimes.
You should keep only the stuff that you really want,
all I am saying is be very careful, that you don't sell or give away
stuff that you may be sorry for later.

My suggestion to put into storage is only a means to gain a little extra time.
Obviously you need more room quickly, and it may lead you into some rash decisions
about what to keep and what to discard.  Whereas this way, it gives you more
time to go through your collection at your leisure, and calmly decide what you want
and what you don't.
