I"ve been sick for almost a week now with a viral chest cold.
I was the last one at work to get it. Sore throat, tightness in the chest, tickle trigger cough that kept me awake for close to two days, sinus congestion runny nose, etc. Antibiotics were ruled out because the cold is caused by a virus. I've been taking Zicam (a zinc based) medication, and it got rid of the sore throat in just over two days. I've been taking a Robitussin generic cough syrup to suppress the cough in order to sleep better. I have experienced better sleep and significant relief although, I'm still coughing here and there. I still have a fever and the chills. I get sneezy once in a while. The worst is over, but all my friends are/were sick for two weeks. My clinic confirmed this.
So . . . when you get a common cold, what do you do, don't do? What meds do you take, don't take? What works, doesn't work? Links are fine, but let's talk about personal remedies you've tried and had success and failure with.
Discuss!
(Achoo! Shiver!)
Addendum: For pre-emptive measures, I wash my hands a lot. I also carry with me an alcohol gel based hand sanitizer (Purell). My hands are really clean, although dry. LOL! I just wish I could figure out a way to avoid walking through others' sneeze clouds!
