When the Great Darkness Saga first appeared Legion of Super-Heroes #291 had a 7 page story entitled "Leaders and Lovers" with art by Howard Bender and Rodin Rodriguez. When the 1989 trade paperback version appeared the story was redrawn by Keith Giffen. Giffen had done the artwork for the other issues in the trade but his style had since changed dramatically (and for the worst in my opinion), making a jarring contrast with the rest of the trade. Now I am informed (I haven't seen it yet) that the Deluxe Edition also has the Giffen version instead of the original Bender/Rodriguez version. This might be a deal breaker for me. Is there any conceivable reason, legal or otherwise, why DC does cannot or will not reprint the original art? Speculation will be welcome. If there is no such reason, why not, in a 400 page Deluxe Edition reprint both versions?
