first issues almost always came out when kids were on vacation from school -- look at these "on-sale" dates:
this is the month everyone goes nuts about the Shared Universe, but I don’t get it. National Periodical Publications had their Justice League, their Brave and the Bold, their World’s Finest
a lot of fans go on and on about Gene Colan’s work with light and shadow, but Don Heck’s lush shadows don’t take a back seat to anyone
“A pretty young lady can always be of help – just by keeping the men’s morale up!” I miss the days when you could say stuff like that in public.

Thanks so much for posting those last two GNCLN panels and at such size (and also that Ditko splash). This is probably the only way I'd ever have seen those. I waited as long as I could before thanking you; hopefully whenever people see my name as the recent post on the frontpage, they know by now that I'm merely responding to a new Comicsdad review and they'll still open to read what you have for us each time...I dislike obscuring the evidence of your recent post but I didn't want your latest to go unappreciated vocally.
That couple seems kind of close to the new star to have survived it. But my astrophysics needs dusting
Why is Gundar's shadow interrupted?
If you find any extra time at some point, I'm very interested if you could explain some examples of "Colanisms" (love that term)

Yep, understood. The sailor is highlighted but I do think it could've looked more dramatic with the shadow draped over him. I was just pointing out the laws of physics are in abeyance. (I know we could do that for every issue but this one seemed more of an odd occurrence.)
Judging only from the splash, it could be that an unseen assailant behind Gundar has slashed him in two.
