Strangely enough, I think there would've been more news/excitement had Marvel announced that they were bringing back Ultraverse-- only because that question has been asked time and time again.

I don't know all of the details. but it sounds like Crossgen failed because of financial mismanagement, not on a creative or sales level. Since CrossGen liked to have all their creative people exclusive to them, Waid left.
