I was told that the last one sold 10 minutes earlier, so I guess I'll have to wait for a re-stocking. Anyone here get this new toy today?

Posts: 9362 Jun 24 10 9:07 PM Registered Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Mine arrived yesterday afternoon -- I managed to get in a pre-order after a day of trying, off and on, just before the ship date was pushed off by a week (and then by two weeks). The screen is truly awe-inspiring (particularly if you use your iPhone to read from an awful lot, as I do), but I find I miss the more organic curves of the earlier models. I'm really looking forward to trying out the new camera (for obvious reasons). In The Back Of Beyond: My photography blog. Everything seen through the camera of my iPhone.

It beeps me to say that there is an e-mail in my inbox, but it takes between 5 & 10 minutes to finally appear. It may well have something to do the high usage on the networks because of the big sales of the iPhone 4. I was lucky to get one today as all of the stores sold out, i think throughout the UK, by lunchtime yesterday and I was working all morning so couldn't get to the store in time, in fact the last one sold out 10 minutes before I arrived. However, the sister store in the High street has been closed for a few days to be refurbished and didn't open until today and they still had there supply of iPhones. When my daughter and I got ours at about 11 am there were only about 20 left.

I'm this close to replacing my iPhone due to the AT&T service. I'm in the Bay Area and it drops at least half my calls and I can rarely access data services. I'm going to give AT&T one last chance to put a hotspot in my neighborhood, otherwise it's off to Sprint and 4G for me!

Posts: 9362 Jun 25 10 2:34 PM Registered Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Let's be fair, this isn't exactly a new or unusual problem for cell phones (many of which tend to have antennas positioned toward the bottom of the device try to keep them away from the head) -- nor is it, thus far, a widespread issue with this particular model of iPhone. (It seems as though it may be more of an issue in areas where the signal strength is weak, but even the evidence for that is anecdotal at this point.) (I've had no problems here. I have a case on order, but I probably won't have it for another month.) However, the sister store in the High street has been closed for a few days to be refurbished and didn't open until today and they still had there supply of iPhones. That happened to me last year, sort of. I went to the Apple Store I usually go to the day of the 3GS launch -- but it was closed for renovations! Posts: 2052 Jul 10 10 9:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't think Verizon has a crying need for the iPhone anymore, as their Droid-OS phones as selling very well, and the comparison reviews to the iPhone have been very positive. It seems like the rumors of a Verizon/Apple channel agreement have stopped, as Verizon has seen its data plan rates soar because of the Droid smartphones. I've been a Blackberry user for years, but we are taking the leap into Droid as my daughter just got an HTC Droid Incredible. It looks slick as all get-out, and I am anxious to explore the apps. Just going through the smartphone selection process, Verizon really plays up the Droid Open Source/multi-sources of apps angle -- which should favorably impact the rate of innovation, and presumably the cost. In an area where signal strength is weak (that's a key part of the problem), the symptoms can be reproduced -- though I don't know that I've suffered any dropped calls or problems with data because of it. Not that this is anything previously unknown, but if you're looking for a reliable, neutral ground between "people who think there's no problem with the new iPhone" and "people who think there's nothing but problems with the new iPhone," a Consumer Reports lab test is probably it.
