My toilet has been running for a while now, so finally I started to work on it Saturday night. I got the flapper changed without incident, but the intake valve has been a whole other story. At issue is the plastic nut that came with it. It just will not loosen. I've tried heat, WD-40, every variation of wrench I own, and it just will not turn. All it does is turn the valve assembly inside the tank with it.
I managed to stop that by gripping the valve with one wrench while trying to turn the nut with the other. All I wind up doing is stripping the nut. To make matters worse, in trying, I've broken the plastic arm that controls the valve, so I HAVE to fix this a.s.a.p. (it's my only toilet). My father will try to help me tonight, and worse case, I'll have to call a plumber (which I hate to do for such a simple installation). Does anyone here have any suggestions?
