I thought it fit right in with the Higgins Boys and Gruber show that was also on the Comedy Channel. That was definitely the vibe of the channel back then.
I don't really think the host segments suffered when Mike replaced Joel. The Mike Comedy Central era had a lot of great host segments. Crow's Peter Graves screenplay in 517, Frank getting fired in 523, Mike's stereo system in 606, the swing choirs in 609, the mirror universe sketches in 611, Tom's Air Force chorus in 612, "A Joke by Ingmar Bergman" in 619, Tom's "peaceful" death ray in 620...they were more hit and miss, though. Joel had a way of making even the lamest segment pleasantly enjoyable.
