Did Simonson himself answer the mail? Were there lots of negative reactions to the "bold new direction" or something?

Those would be nice, but not "must haves" for me.The second one you mention (I just checked out) is done by Scott Lobdell and Lou Harrison, so of course it's hardly pertinent in a Simonson-centric omnibus. But the first one "Thor vs BRB", is written by Simonson, and it's about his first issue on the book, so I think it's just a perfect fit.

If so, you may not be aware that there have been several folks around these parts who have been clamoring for a Simonson Thor Omnibus for years. I don't recall who in particular, but a couple of them have been very vocal about it. You may or may not be aware that the Simonson Thor Omnibus was far and away voted the most requested Omnibus in the last two Masterworks Surveys...

DanaMania wrote:A slipcased set is vain hope as far as I know. I suggested a two-volume slipcased set years ago, along with the "Marvel Supreme Editions" label. Modern masterpieces like Walt's Thor, Miller's DD, Byrne's FF - that sorta stuff was tailor made for a special line of "super deluxe slipcase hard covers." This was back before the first Omnibus volume..
DanaMania wrote:As far as the letter pages, IMO, they are far more important than some of those suggested extras... Walt and Ralph Macchio did respond to a lot of readers' queries at the time.

So far we have:
2 votes for the SINGLE OMNIBUS3 votes for 2 OMNIBI 2 indifferent one way or the other1 vote for 3 OMNIBI
[DEMAGOGUE MODE ON]
Do you realise that:
ONE SINGLE 1200 PAGE OMNIBUS would cost 100 dollarswhereas TWO 600 PAGE OMNIBI would cost 75 dollars each?
Not to mention a wait of 6 months (at the very least) between both books. How long did it take between TOMB OF DRACULA 1 and 2? One year?
Are you really willing to pay 50% more and wait a long time when you can have the whole shebang in one single, cheaper, hefty tome?

Bilbo wrote: This halfling easily handles the massive Red Book of Westmarch, but faugh say I on a tome which will most assuredly have to leave out various tidbits which would make this collection complete. With 2 (still massive) books we could be assured of the Balder mini, letter pages, original artworks, pin ups, etc. Even Tolkien (the plagerizer who copied word for word my nephew's contribution to the Red Book) had the good sense to divide his plagerized work into 3 books so as to be more manageable.
Bilbo wrote: I fear what might be left out of one book. Not to mention the paper stock which might be used, as cheaper paper makes for a thinner book.
