Posts: 2891 Jan 28 10 12:10 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes, Solomon Kane is pretty dark and brooding, which is part of the attraction to me, but no more so than Kull and less than Howard tales like Worms of the Earth and others of that ilk. I think Kane is a great charater and Red Shadows and Hills of the Dead are among my favourite Howard tales. Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin did a particularly fine adaptation of the former. Alan Weis and Neal Adams also did some nice artwork for the latter but the second part fell apart and it didn't hold together as a whole unfortunately.

A couple of questions... 1. Are the Red Sonya stories included in the Dark Horse Conan collections or were they forced to omit them due to rights issues? 2. Sometime in the early or mid 80's Conan the Barbarian comic, Conan had a companion who was a large man with red hair and a beard who only had one arm. This may have been during the Bruce Jones written era. Can anyone remember his name and in which issues he appeared? Thanks.

Posts: 2891 Jan 30 10 2:43 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	AFAIK the Red Sonja tales were included in the initial collections e.g. issue 24's Song of Red Sonja but they had to exclude them once Dynamite acquired the Red Sonja liscence so her last appearances at Dark Horse were issues 43 & 44. Posts: 2891 Jan 30 10 2:52 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The red-headed one-armed bandit sounds suspiciously like Fafnir, who was (apparently) killed in Conan #20 during the seige of Makkelet. Issue 20 is my second favourite issues of Conan by Barry Smith (#24 is my absolute favourite). It opens with this amazing splash page, as Conan and his brother-at-arms return from a raid on Makkelet in which Fafnir, Conan's Aesir companion who he meets up with in issue 18 (by Gil Kane incidently), is struck in the arm by a flaming arrow. Conan subsequently goes on a night-time raid of Makkelet, partially to avenge Fafnir. During the raid he confronts the Black Hound of Vengeance (hence the story's title) and just barely makes it back to his ship. Upon dragging his bloody and beaten body on board he finds out that Fafnir has been thrown overboard, ostensibly food for the sharks. It results in one of the most memorable scenes from Conan history. So apparently Marvel eventually resurrected Fafnir. Bloody typical.... Last Edited By: deejayway Jan 30 10 2:55 PM. Edited 1 times.

I'm glad Sonya's first couple of appearances made it into the collections. I've never read Conan #24, so I'll pick up that collection on the near future. Conan #44 was the first issue of Conan that I ever owned. Many years later, I picked #43 at a comic shop.
