He did some great work for Warren's sci-fi mag '1984' and despite my caveat about colour, I also liked the Captain Fear feature he did in Adventure Comics. I think my first Batman book came in one of those 3-packs from wal-mart, and it was around this time. It retold Jason Todd's origin, I think (408?). In 1986-87, I was 13.

Any "mainstream" involvement, e.g. superhero stuff? I recently saw your b&w Spirit short story and it was a very funny reading and a little example of "intelligent entertainment”.... PCR: Earlier this year I finished work on The Happy Prince, the fifth volume in my ongoing adaptation of the complete fairy tales of Oscar Wilde. Now I'm starting work on the sixth album and the last of those nine tales, The Fisherman and his Soul. There's an album of Neil Gaiman short stories I should be farther along. We're also discussing a several hundred page adaptation of his The Graveyard Book which would involve a number of artists working over my layouts. No super-hero work at the present, the Spirit story was about as close to that as I've gotten in a while. What a delightful script Will Pfeiffer gave me. So between Gaiman and Wilde I have the next couple of years planned out. Which reminds me of an old joke. Q: How do you make God laugh? A: Tell him your plans. His Wilde adaptations have been great. The Graveyard Book adaptation sounds neat.

Hope they get the large-size treatment they deserve to appreciate Russell's gorgeous artwork. Btw, I loved his b&w Spirit tale. My admiration for Russell is such that I broke my years-long moritorium on buying floppies to buy that issue of the Spirit. Read between the lines or you'll fall through the cracks. That said, while I think Jae Lee's work on the Inhumans is among the best work of his career, there are many samples of work on this thread that I much prefer. But, as some people never tire of exclaiming, it's all subjective. Bring on more samples Noet. I look forward to them because my floppies of this series are stored away somewhere where they haven't seen the light of day in many a moon. And no you wiseguys....not there! Posts: 1012 Nov 30 11 6:42 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, I finished the Inhumans story. It's really a fantastic tale about politics and betrayal. Family and trust. Tradition and modernity. Love and loneliness. It's a story that might have been an issue or two too long, but it kind of builds suspense in the same way the characters experience it. I have never cared about the Inhumans before, apart from a cool issue of Dazzler where she absorbs Blackbolt's sound to be able to stop Absorbing Man. But that was just "cool". This book made me interested enough in these people to consider ordering the two Masterworks. The artwork is beautiful, although I spoke a bit hastily when I said it was the most beautiful comic I had seen. Those scans of Madusa I posted are the loveliest in the book, and he clearly likes to draw her because she is repeatedly the prettiest image throughout. Here's a few shots that are not about her.. In this scene, Lockjaw has been running around looking for a peaceful place to rest, as everyone is so agitated. He goes to Blackbolt's room, knowing it'll be quiet, and ends up providing a bit of solace to the burdned King. It's a beautiful scene, one of the best in the whole book.
