Re Double Sided printing: Microsoft Word should be sufficient for your needs. I've used it for printing double sided cover pages, and it worked perfectly fine. Are you using Office 2003 or Office 2007? Let me know, and I'll try walking you through it. One key, is to use "Mirror Margins" when setting the custom margins.

Page layout software like Quark Express or In Design uses a "paginate" formula for creating a consistent gutter on double sided pages for any scanning you might want to incorporate into your binding project. But if you are truly concerned that your local binder won't do your project justice, then step up to the next level and get in touch with Capitol or LBC. They do this sort of thing all the time, and will double check all the work so it looks awesome. They cost a bit more, but what are you shooting for here? You're investing a lot of time into this one particualr project, and you'd be pretty upset if it didn't turn out right the first time. Good luck - post some pictures when you get these back. I had my run of Crisis bound, but only just the 12 issues themselves, and the History as well.
