I could (perhaps) understand if they were leery of giving up the rights in USA (not that they are doing anything w/older material right now, except for Sugar and Spike Archive; and looking forward to that volume), but it would seem that a publisher in England would be welcomed by them.

Surely DC's deal with Titan would preclude them from engaging with another UK publisher even if they should want to...?

But there seems to be a market for Archives in a $50/$75 price-point (usually selling 1500-1800 copies), yet DC has chosen not to follow Marvel's lead and continuing publishing older material. I am sure it is an (inside-DC) sound-business decision, as the price point margin may no longer be attractive to them. However, one can only hope that if they were to license the SA/MIS rights, they would have nothing to lose.

I wonder whether there's a royalty issue - given that (reportedly, allegedly, caveat, caveat) DC supposedly pay more people more money, their margins may be lower.

(Either that or we just sneak around to your house and steal your wallet off the dresser while you're asleep.) But seriously, it means that you'll hear about ALL PS projects before the General Public and that way you can get your orders in pronto . . . which is particularly useful if we're talking about a run that's very limited indeed (such as the deluxe traycased run on CHAMBER OF CHILLS and all of the Harvey Horror titles . . . just 26 lettered copies). Yes, we too hope it lasts longer than the full-color EC volumes. Whether or not we'd be allowed to take that over, I have no idea . . . particularly as I believe DC is involved. I did approach them a year or two back with a view to reprinting the old STRANGE ADVENTURES and MYSTERY IN SPACE titles -- or, at least, a specific character (such as SPACE CABBY) but they were emphatically not interested at all. If they've had a change of mind then I'd love to hear from them . . . particularly after the botch-up they did on both the ATOMIC KNIGHTS and SUPERBOY volumes, whose panels run right into the center gutter and make the books virtually unreadable . . . or, at least, not much fun. A great shame, I think. Yes, we plan on including the covers from the reprint issue. And yes, we're currently planning on including all the original stuff even when (as in the case of BLACK CAT) it changes from horror to western and back again etc. Basically, it comes down to this: if it's a success then we'll keep doing it . . . so tell your friends, tell your folks and maybe even stop complete strangers and tell them. And finally, it's nice to see our way of doing business is finding favor out there. We've been running PS for almost 14 years now and, with fast approaching 280 titles under our belt, we've worked--and continue to work--extensively with the top names in the field of horror, fantasy and science fiction. It's not rocket science: treat folks well--be they authors, artists or readers--and they come back. Plus, of course, we're all fans of this stuff ourselves and that counts for a lot. See you in the funny pages! Pete
