looking good with the web books kevin!
My only complaint with library binding, as evidenced by both our books, is that the spine stamping isn't very consistent. I like a uniform look on my shelf, from book to book and series to series. I think it's because they do all the stamping BEFORE cutting the buckrum and it leaves quite a bit of margin for error. For this reason I am going to continue sending my highly decorative books to Capitol, like my planned Star Wars run, and use Library for my bulk projects like Spiderman. I just sent off a three volume set of 1992 Spiderman to be bound, although I already found an error as I accidentally left out an issue. This means I'll have to send it separately along with a new table of contents page. I'm leaving some issues out because I have a massive project in motion to combine all the Spiderman crossover stories (Web, Spectacular, Amazing, 1992, Sensational, Annuals) into a consecutive volume set. Next will probably be Spectacular once I finish my full run of issues. |

yeah, i left on my WCA run i left out crossover issues (i.e. galactic storm) and most of the annuals for later binding so that i could get the whole story together.
luckily for me, the only series that i REALLY care about (New Teen Titans), i am almost done at capitol so i can save some $$ by going with library. one thing though, do they make you a mock up so that you can double check what it looks like? whenever i take my books in jim just takes them and says ok. |

I have been making my own mock-ups in photoshop to show exactly what I want, and sending them in with each volume.

Nice books Kevin. Good to see what the white text looks like.
I think I've had a similar experince with Library. Capitol still gets my special books, but I use Library for the large runs (49 volumes this year and counting....I'm sending off Iron Man 70 thru 250 this week). I haven't had a problem with spine stamping that I can tell. Everything lines up fine. Kevin, I strongly suggest you take the time to make a template or mock-up for Jim. It is best to be very specific on what you want every time you send something in. I don't think they are used to binding comics and I also don't think they are used to folks being so particular about how things line up on the shelf so to speak. It took me a while, but they know exactly what I want and I have no problems. They've even re-worked a few books for me when I wasn't satisfied, at no charge. I like these guys. |

when i did the WOSM, i just sorta drew out what i wanted on a piece of paper. does anyone have any sort of a template or tutorial on how to make a mock up?

Quote: I was thinking of going with Library mainly for the cost, so here are a couple questions for Kev and Agg: 1. Is the spine stamping in the pictures above just a factor of putting the books on the carpet? The books look to be different heights, when placed on the shelf are any differences a lot less noticeable? 2. Do they (Library) trim or no? |

Here's a pic of some of my books on a shelf. They look lined up to me.
Library does trim. I will say that they were very cautious to not trim text off the covers, which occasionally resulted in uneven trimming. So now I tell them its ok if I lose a little cover text here and there. I haven't had any problems since. If you are getting uneven books, I'd tell Jim the specific problem so he can make sure the work is completed the way you want it.
