Title sez it all.
We've seen an incredible release of Volume 1s projected for 2009 & 2010. Young Allies #1; Inhumans #1; Deathlok #1; BK/YC #1; Menace #1; and AA Jungle Adventures #1.
What next? How long will this trend continue for? How many other Volume 1s, if any, will be coming out in 2010 and in 2011?
It is worth noting that 3 of the 6 titles I listed were/are done-in-ones -while Inhumans will require only one more volume to finish, Young Allies will require only 3 more volumes to finish, and Jungle Adventures will require only 4 more to finish.
It's also worth noting that, in the "What If" mapping section here, there are ONLY 5 other GA series waiting to start: All-Select (which would probably logically start after All-Winners finishes -and would be done-in-two), Blonde Phantom (done-in-one), Kid's Comics (done-in-two, I believe?), Mystic (done-in-three), and Rarities (done-in-two).
Mystic jumps out screaming as the most significant/overdue GA Masterwork -I'd expect to see it as soon as they get their hands on all the books they need. Conversely, I'd not be surprised if they don't focus on any other new book other than that until they finish off All-Winners and get several followups for other books like the Torch, Daring, & USA -especially as they just began another series (YA) that will require several more (3) volumes to finish.
I'd also be surprised to see more than 1 or 2 (-maximum-) AA books -and, if two, I'd expect at least one of 'em would be another done-in-one. I'd expect devotion to the 4 (soon to be 5) existing AA (open) lines. Really, I think it likely that we either won't see any other NEW AA line this year -UNLESS it's another done-in-one, in which case BATTLEFIELD looks like a fine candidate, allowing the AA line to delve into another genre, without leaving a "loose end".
It's the SA/BA "holdouts", "other genres", like the Westerns, Patsy, and Millie, and the now significant list of BA titles waiting to come out that offer the biggest question marks. There's just so much stuff here.
We're WAY overdue for another Western. And there's all the holdouts like NBE, Dr. Doom, Ka-Zar, and (even though many don't care or want it or think it'll ever come) Captain Savage, and even more significant stuff like Iron Fist, Black Panther, Marvel Team-Up, Marvel Two In One, Power Man, Nova, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, etc...
So... what will we see next? My predictions: Mystic will be the next GA Volume One -and probably the last for a while- and Battlefield will be the next AA Volume One.
As far as SA/BA "Superhero" titles go, I think the Western Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Black Panther, and Marvel Team-Up have the best chances of being the next Volume Ones.
The Western Ghost Rider is arguably the most interesting of the "12 cent" material not yet Masterworked, and it's both a Western and a Superhero title. And I think Iron Fist and Black Panther are tied as the most likely new characters to get their first Masterworks -with Marvel Team-Up being a highly predictable/expected book of significance.
