Golden Age by James Robinson is a favourite from that era and IMHO it is still one of the greatest tales told about JSA.
I have been following the JSA ever since the second-last incarnation was launched, spearheaded by David Goyer and James Robinson.
I always thought the JSA was an incredibly dull cast of characters so I was surprised tha Geoff Johns managed to craft it into a series, which has maintained my attention for approximately a decade now I guess.
Somehow along the way, I have developed quite an affection for the franchise. So much so that I recently ordered the 1991 & 1992 mini-series and I'm considering going further back and ordering the Paul Levitz run in All*Star Comics (I believe). Any info/opinions on this stuff would be welcome.
Part of the fascination led me to pick up the first 2 dozen of Roy Thomas' All*Star Squadron (see below).
Being an inverterate Marvelite, the JLA also seemed a singularly bland group and if you compare Mike Sekowsky and Dick Dillan's work to the artwork on Marvel's team books at the time; FF, Avengers and X-Men, it seemed like yer grandmuddah's table cloth.
However, I started collecting with the DeMatteis/Giffen/McGuire run, which I gave up on after the first 3 dozen issues once the gag wore out its welcome. Re-upped again for the duration of Grant Morrison's tenure, which to my mind is by far the greatest take on the JLA ever. I've also been collecting the latest run since the relaunch.
Anyways, this is intended as the all-purpose JSA-JLA-All*Star thread.
