Don't do it | ||

Don't do it Gary, stop now while you still have any free will left. I started like you with only one book and look at me now more than 25 books and hundreds yet to come. Don't do it.

Don't worry Ray, I have it under control. I have it all planned out exactly how many volumes I want made. But this is what I want to do since it makes the reading experience more enjoyable. It's also because I prefer to read books as collected editions, especially hardbacks, and this way it's like making your own 'Archive' collection. At the same time, it's an enjoyable process preparing the books you want to have hardbacked. But to speed up the process, and I'm also getting books hardbacked by Blissett's in England, and my first set of 4 books from them should be with me next month. One thing I notice is that when you have the books prepared to have hardbacked, you begin to see less room taken up by your comics collection, so eventually you will see them all sitting neatly together on the book shelf. |

Yea David, I guess it has been two years that we've been working on this set. 19 Superman volumes so far (oh, and that 1 catwoman test volume...my wife still hasn't read it all the way through yet, so volume 2 is still a while off
I am still debating for Christmas if I should ask for 1984 and 1985 bound, or if I should bind Steel or Supergirl.... Ah well, plenty of time to decide. - binarysunrise |

Hi,
Earlier in this thread I mentioned having custom illustrations done by the Brothers Fraim for the Ultimate FF book that I am giving away as a gift. Here are a few photos showing Brendon penciling and Brian inking. dpbanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

What a really cool idea! If I ever get to a comics convention or such, I hope to take a few of my hardbacks to have signed or even have the artist draw a little sketch in.

Dust jackets | ||

Hi,
We have talked about dust jackets before. The Fraim brothers have been experimenting with making jackets for their recently bound books. www.dpbanks.com/fraim.html These are un-inked pencils. I'll post the finished product soon. ![]() dpbanks |

Wowzers!
BTW, Wizard World Boston starts Friday. I'll be there during set-up tomorrow. We'll see how many people this time are interested getting their own comics bound once they see mine... - Bill |

Wow, those are really beautiful!
It just shows that by having our books binded by people like David, the result can look just as good as the books produced by Marvel, DC, and others, in most cases even better... |

I really like these too, David | ||

Here in the UK we can also have bookbinders depth zinco die stamps made from artwork supplied for either spine and/or front board foil blocking and frequently do for private collectors coming to Blissett Bookbinders for their binding. Additionally though we can overcome the problem of narrow gutters and dangers of losing text or graphics of double page spreads or tight spine margin pages.... we have sewing machines called Martini sewing machines that can sew continuously through the single section folds once we have removed the metal staples. This process allows completely free flat opening to the cente of each section for all 25 issues and we don't need to mill or trim anything from the backs of each page. It works really well for this sort of material rather than the alternative of oversewing. Charles Dunn Blissett Bookbinders www.blissetts.com |

Yes that's right the needle punches holes along the centre spine fold of each section rather than entering through the sides of the pages.

First up, all of those are BEAUTIFUL. The two that really stood out to me are Michael Gagne's Monsters on the Prowl volume and Gary Henderson's Frontline Combat volume.
I have a question of Gary, is this volume made from the Gemstone reprints? If so, are the pages glossy? Thanks. Best Regards,

Quote: David, Those are indeed from the Gemstone reprints. Actually no the pages are not glossy... I guess that's just the way they turned out in the photo... This is the first of my EC library... ![]() Coming next would be the two volumes of Tales From the Crypt. |

Re: New Projects | ||

I currently have my full run of Mike Grell's Jon Sable (56 issues) with Blissetts, currently being made into 4 volumes.
I should get them sometime this month, so I will be able to report and show you the result of those then. |

charles.dunn@blissetts.com ====================== Hi Charles, Good to have you onboard! Couple of questions. Does the machine/needles have a problem with the normal thickness of a comic? How do you handle a perfect bound soft cover book for binding? Do you use the same machine or do you have to oversew this? And lastly do you do any oversewing? dpbanks |
