So who do you consider a Marvel guy and who do you consider a DC guy and why.
Pretty lame I know but hey it's Sunday afternoon....
I'll start with some of my favourite creators:
Neal Adams.
DC guy definitely even if he did do some defining work at Marvel.
Nevertheless he did the majority of DC covers for a period and he helped to redefine the Batman.
He also was instrumental in giving DC some much-needed street cred in the late 60s, early 70s with the socially relevant (and hamfisted) GL/GA.
Jim Steranko.
Marvel all the way. Besides the fact that he did next to nothing for DC, his small output of work for Marvel was revolutionary and iconic.
Barry Smith.
Ditto. Marvel.
Berni Wrightson.
Ditto but this time in favour of DC.
John Byrne.
Even though he has done a significant amount of work at DC, maybe even more work than at Marvel, including redefining their flagship title, Supeman, I still consider him quinessentially a Marvel guy.
His work on X-Men set the standard for years and his run on Marvels flagship title, FF, is second only to Stan and Jack's.
Also, as good as some of his work was at DC, it never compared with his best work at Marvel.
George Perez.
Despite important runs on Avengers and FF, Perez is a DC guy for me, based largely on the reverse arguement of Byrne, if that makes any kind of sense.
Okay, I'll leave the floor open to others.
