Yeah, rarely has a comic made such an abrupt, radical change for the better, literally from one month to another. Swamp Thing #21 (The Anatomy Lesson) is the only other example that comes immediately to mind.
Of course nowadays it is sop to relaunch and reboot series with 'radical new directions', but they are clean breaks with what went before, tradition and continuity, whereas MoKF #29 fit in seamlessly with what had gone before, but just took everything up a dozen notches.
There was nothing like it on the stands at the time; the unique blend of pseudo Eastern spirituality, water-downed superheroics, sophisticated characterization (including sexual politics) and high-octane James Bond action.
And to be honest, while it has been far surpassed in terms of sophistication, there has never been another comic with that special mix.

 Irony and subtly are the first casualties in the eternal battle of wits between people divided by a common language. So read between the lines or you'll fall through the cracks...
