Back in the late 70's / early 80's, Michael Golden was one of my favorite artists as well.

Like Byrne, Perez, Simonson, Miller, and (later) Mignola, he had such a unique style compared to the other artists of the preceding decade that it would make me want to pick up any book that was assigned to him.  To this day, the initial 12 issue run of The Micronauts remains one of my all-time favorite stories, largely based on the art.  He work from that period is epic.

From what I understand, he took a break from comics.  May have gone into commercial artwork, if I recall right.  When he came back, he had altered his style to its current form.  While the bold, dynamic action is still there, the compositions seem dominated with larger, blocky figures, and the level of detail and shading seems to be a lot less pronounced than in the past.

To me, it's always tough when a favorite artist evolves his style to something substantially different than what you enjoy.  Had a similar experience with Keith Giffen.  When he and Larry Mahlstedt were on their Legion of Superhero run, the art was outstanding - highly detailed and powerful.  Shortly after the Darkseid saga, Giffen moved to a much looser style, and it completely killed the book for me.  The difference between the two style changes is that Golden came back to comics with a different style after several years away, while Giffen seemed to change radically overnight.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for posting their classic Golden images.  I'm enjoying all of them.
