When you consider the utter dearth of information that DC provides about their classic reprint program -- to the point where solicited books can be cancelled as little as a week before street date! -- the interaction that we have here with the Marvel team is refreshing and greatly appreciated.

At the same time, I don't begrudge Marvel for being discreet about their publishing plans.

Think back a few months and consider how some at this forum behaved about the news regarding a change in the logo on the spine of the books. And then, just a short time later, how some greeted the news when Cory confirmed that the Masterworks line was decreasing from 21 releases per year to just 18. Neither one of those incidents fosters a high degree of confidence in the membership of this forum. Indeed, with that history, I'm amazing that Cory and David G. are still willing to visit here!

I have no doubt -- thanks to the nuggets he's shared over the years -- that Cory has plans for the Masterworks that extend out many years and include the Golden Age and Atlas Era material. At the same time, Cory's plans are subject to market forces, managerial direction, and a host of other issues beyond his control. Plans, sometimes, get delayed or derailed, despite the good faith effort that went into their creation and the intention that remains to carry them out.

While I love a peek behind the curtain as much as anyone else, what does it profit Cory to share his plans, realizing they are subject to change, and realizing that should things NOT come off as planned, there are some here who will react poorly (as though it were the end of days)? I suspect he does just fine without all the drama.

I share the frustration with the lack of new Golden Age and Atlas Era Masterworks. These have been important titles for both my enjoyment and my education in the comics arts, and I look forward to their return to the schedule. I remain hopeful that we'll see at least one Atlas Era release this year.
