Great post, Droid.

I have no doubt that Marvel is missing more pre-1962 issues than it actually possesses. In this day and age, I would think that there is little excuse for them not exploiting what they DO have. And that includes all the comics that they have borrowed and scanned but do not retain physical copies of. If they've got even 100 random Timely/Atlas scans (funny animal, teen humor, romance or any other "unmarketable" genres) IMO they should make them available for paid download or add them to whatever they have in the way of a digital subscription service. The only reasons I can fathom NOT to would be a) they do not think it would generate revenue (hard to believe due to virtually no additional overhead costs) or they think they are undercutting greater revenue that the material would generate in another medium (like killing Masterworks sales by offering the comics digitally.) Which would only make sense if they were ever planning to release the stuff in Masterworks, which seems highly unlikely.

I'm know I'm just spinning my wheels in frustration; surely there are market forces at play that I am not in a position to understand? Or maybe I just choose not to understand them.
