To me being the artist at late 1960s Marvel had two main components--the actual art and the plotting.

Was Steranko a brilliant artist? Yes. Was he a brilliant plotter after the handful of books he did? Of course not. Therefore I pick him.

I hate Heck's art and his plotting.
I love Ditko's plotting--hate his art. Kane ditto.
I love Colan's art--hate his plotting.
I love Kirby's art and even more so his plotting.

That's why I love when Kirby did layout's for other artists--especially up and coming ones. You got a brief glimpse of Marvel if he was in charge and spending time directing the, then small, universe.

His Hulk with Everett finishes, his SHIELD with a half-dozen artists taking turns.

god I'd have loved to see his X_Men layouts finished by an artist more dynamic than Roth. So sad his Cap layouts in TOS 69-74 weren't with more compatable artists than Tuska or Heck.

Would have loved to see Wally Wood over Kirby layouts----I love his inks over Kirby
