Old news, but there were definitely rights involved with the character, though he seemed to be mostly a Marvel creation:

There's also this:

I have that graphic novel and it's okay, but not as much fun as the Marvel series. It doesn't use any of the Marvel supporting cast and the characterization of the Fly isn't the same (he kills people for instance). True, the Marvel series wasn't a classic but it was fun and it'd be nice to see it collected in a tpb. Not gonna happen though...

Thanks, Steve!

It's funny, though ... the comic book movie site says that the Human Fly was "a Marvel comic book based on real-life stuntman, Joe Ramacieri." But the Wikipedia article says: "The character was based on real-life stuntman Rick Rojatt."

Maybe the guy used a stage name, but the discrepency seems to only cast more doubt on whether the "real" angle was true or just a made-up gimmick to sell comics. Certainly the stuntman didn't have most of his bones replaced with steel!

In any case, I'd seriously consider buying a volume of reprints of this mag, should one ever be released.
